2023 is a big year for former Heisman Trophy running back Eddie George. On top of celebrating his 50th birthday later this year, the Ohio State legend was part of a big announcement today.
On Monday, the Chicago Bears announced that George will be one of their two Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship coaches in 2023. George will have a two-week period with the Bears where he gets the opportunity to get NFL coaching experience.
Bears head coach Matt Eberflus welcomed George and FSU defensive coordinator Randy Shannon into the fold.
“We are very excited to welcome these two highly talented coaches in Eddie and Randy. Allowing them to join our staff during our OTAs enables us to offer this unique opportunity to current college coaches during their offseason,” Eberflus said. “We are confident that these coaches will be great assets to our team during their time here, and we are looking forward to learning from them as well.”
Eberflus isn’t the only one that’s excited. Bears fans are intrigued at the idea of a running back as experienced and great as George was teaching their young running backs too:
Nice, glad to see Eddie George in this mix.

I *LOVE* Eddie George as a player & a coach! Can you imagine how he can help our offense & RBs get even better?
Last year, Herbert led NFL in yds/carry, D’Onta had 5-100 yd games, and Roschon had a great senior season … and they are all going to be even better in ‘23!

The job will not take Eddie George away from his head coaching duties at Tennessee State University. George is heading into his third year at the helm and had three years remaining on his contract.
But if this fellowship becomes the springboard for George becoming an NFL coach, it’s definitely worth the time commitment.
