After today’s loss to the Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes fans are more than ready to send head coach Ryan Day packing. But their list of dream candidates to replace him is going to be one name shorter.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel – an Ohio State alum and former assistant under Luke Fickell and Urban Meyer – is staying in the NFL. Per the report, despite the Titans’ 3-7 record, the team wants him to be their head coach for the long-term future.
“Sorry Buckeyes. You can cross Mike Vrabel off your list of coach candidates for Ohio State. Not only is he staying in the NFL, the Titans want him to be their head coach for years to come,” Russini wrote.
Vrabel spent three years at Ohio State before returning to the NFL. He was hired as head coach of the Titans in 2018 and led them to four straight winning seasons and two AFC South titles in his first four seasons.
Sorry Buckeyes.

Mike Vrabel is widely considered one of the best coaches in the NFL for his ability to do more with less. Though he’s never been tested in the college ranks with a top job.
It might be a moot point though. There’s not a lot of evidence that the Buckeyes are even going to fire Vrabel, let alone go to the NFL ranks to find a replacement for Ryan Day.
Where will Vrabel and Day be coaching in 2024?
