Apparently this is an attractive job!
The Tennessee Titans have their new general manager. Less than two weeks after Ran Carthon was fired, the Titans are hiring Mike Borgonzi who has been with the Kansas City Chiefs for the past 16 seasons according to Tom Pelissero. Adam Schefter is reporting that the deal is not done yet. Borgonzi has been one of the hottest names in GM searches for the last few years.
My guess is that pretty shortly we will get news on who is out from the Titans coaching staff now that the GM search has wrapped up. That doesn’t mean that Borgonzi necessarily had any input on who stays and who goes. The Titans probably just wanted to focus all of their energy on getting the GM in place before finalizing those decisions.
Borgonzi’s first and biggest task will be identifying the next quarterback for the Titans – whether that comes as a free agent they identify to be the bridge guy or taking a quarterback with the first overall pick.
From there, it will be all about filling the various holes on the roster. There are plenty of other needs this team has beyond just the quarterback. They need help at EDGE, on the right side of the offensive line, wide receiver, and safety.
Albert Breer says that former Las Vegas Raiders GM Dave Ziegler could be an addition to the scouting staff under Borgonzi.
Borgonzi’s former boss, Chiefs GM Brett Veach had this to say:
