Tom Pelissero says Callahan has shown “long-term promise”
Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network wrote an article this morning talking about each of the coaching staffs from teams that have been eliminated from playoff contention. One of those teams, obviously, is the Tennessee Titans. Pelissero said that Brian Callahan is expected to return next season. Here are his comments on Callahan:
Internally, there is a feeling Callahan has shown long-term promise and the team has improved; the expectation next season is that that’ll be reflected more on the field and the scoreboard. Fixing the QB position — former second-round pick Will Levis was benched in December — is Job No. 1.
That’s the right choice. Things have not gone as well as everyone had hoped this season, but there have been plenty of times that plays have been there and the quarterbacks, both Levis and Mason Rudolph, have missed them.
There is also the fact that constant turnover is not good for an organization. It is very rare that you can know a coach cannot handle the job after only one season. Callahan, like Pelissero said, has shown some promising things this season. Hopefully, they can figure out a plan at quarterback and take a huge step forward next season.
