Derrick Henry looks likely to remain with the Tennessee Titans beyond Tuesday’s trade deadline, but the front office reportedly came close to moving the star running back.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the low odds of the Titans trading Henry diminished when they failed to restructure his contract. A source told Schefter that they don’t see a midseason deal happening.
It appears ownership has no intentions of trading Henry. According to Cole Jackson, Amy Adams Strunk vetoed a deal to send Henry to the Baltimore Ravens.
Per sources, the #Ravens and Titans had a deal in place for Henry.

Ravens fans are now left to dream of what could have been.
Baltimore is off to a 6-2 start despite losing J.K. Dobbins to a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 1. The Ravens have allowed an NFL-low 15.1 points per game, and Lamar Jackson has a 101.0 quarterback rating in Todd Monken’s new-look offense.
Baltimore is hardly struggling on the ground. Jackson, Gus Edwards, and Justice Hill have fueled the league’s third-ranked rushing attack. Edwards scored three touchdowns in Sunday’s 31-24 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
Yet adding the two-time rushing champion could have bolstered Baltimore into a lethal offense with even more legitimate Super Bowl aspirations.
After garnering 1,931 scrimmage yards last season, Henry has 664 yards and three touchdowns in seven games for Tennessee. The three-time Pro Bowler is averaging 4.4 yards per carry.
Henry reached 100 rushing yards for just the second time this season in Sunday’s 28-23 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Perhaps the Titans’ triumph convinced ownership not to trade their star player.
At 3-4, the Titans are alive in a crowded race for the AFC’s wild-card spots. They could feel better about their immediate outlook after seeing Will Levis throw four touchdowns in an inspiring NFL debut.
Henry looks poised to stick with the Titans when they start a three-game road stand against the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday.
