Would the Tennessee Titans have interest in Derek Carr?
The Tennessee Titans are sorting through their quarterback plans for the 2025 NFL season. Now’s the time to start making the biggest decision they’ll make this offseason. The NFL Combine just wrapped up and they’re set to host top quarterback prospects Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders on pre-draft visits this week, per Paul Kuharsky.
Free agency also begins in less than two weeks. If the Titans aren’t convinced by Ward and Sanders throughout this pre-draft process, Mike Borgonzi has to sign a veteran quarterback to at least compete with Will Levis for the starting job. One name that popped up frequently was New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr.
It initially sounded like Carr was going to become that available. Then new Saints head coach Kellen Moore mildly committed to the expensive veteran quarterback. Now Ian Rapoport is reporting there’s a “chance” the Saints cut Carr, and the Titans are immediately being mentioned as a potential landing spot.

Rapoport noted that Carr will have “options” if he hits free agency, listing the Titans and Pittsburgh Steelers as potential destinations. Carr would be a logical choice for the Titans as a short-term bridge option. Head coach Brian Callahan was his position coach during the 2018 season with the Oakland Raiders.
Carr is currently slated to carry a bloated cap charge of $51.4 million this coming campaign. Designating him as a post-June release would create $30 million in financial savings, but the Saints would have to be willing to absorb a manageable dead cap charge of $21.4 million. If Carr doesn’t agree to renegotiate his deal with the Saints, he could become available, as his level of play has not met the financial responsibility.
Injury limited Carr to just 10 regular-season appearances in 2023. The former Fresno State standout threw just 15 touchdowns and 2,145 yards, versus five interceptions. Callahan would likely be interested in reuniting with Carr if he became available, especially if Ward and Sanders fail to impress.
