Directly after Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan left the podium, new general manager Mike Borgonzi took over at the NFL Scouting Combine.
While Borgonzi was not extremely forthcoming with information about the Titans’ plans, he did pass on something that could fall through the cracks with all of the draft talk taking place. Speaking with the press, Borgonzi did open up a window on the new approach to free agency.
Mike Borgonzi said the #Titans will be very selective in free agency. They’ll have particular players targeted but if they miss on them, they’re not going to just simply go to the next guy at the position. pic.twitter.com/HhdaARqFb1

“Our philosophy will be draft and develop. To be selective and have discipline in the process,” Borgonzi said on the topic. “We are going to target players that we want, and if sometimes that player doesn’t come to us, we are not going to jump to the next player.”
This is a departure from the spending spree that took place last offseason where they spent a whopping $228 million making a splash with free agents. The Titans have a lot of needs as they try to rebuild the roster and it is clear that it will be a layered approach between using free agency and the draft to build the roster.
The NFL free agent window opens in two weeks, and everyone will see if the Titans hit their target.
