Is Will Levis developing into a franchise QB?
The Tennessee Titans didn’t even give starting quarterback Will Levis a chance in Sunday’s embarrassing loss to the Washington Commanders. Pre-snap penalties, a horrific defensive performance, turnovers on offense and special teams doomed the Titans early and often and before they knew it, they were facing a 28-0 hole. Lost in all that was another solid performance by Levis.
Levis completed 18 of 37 passing attempts for 212 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Despite being forced to operate a pass-happy offense that dropped back consistently, Levis didn’t commit any turnovers, and he was only sacked twice. Above all, the former Kentucky standout ran Brian Callahan’s offense with a sense of rhythm and timing, something he failed to master earlier in the season.
Ball placement, an ability to read the defense, and accuracy were traits that Levis displayed against the Commanders. His pocket presence was significantly better, finally showing the capability to navigate pressure, escape the pocket, keep his eyes downfield and complete explosive plays. No Flags Film compiled an outstanding compilation that highlights Levis’ improved play from Sunday.

From Week 8 onward, Levis has completed an NFL-best 8 big-time-throws (BTT), according to Pro Football Focus. His big-time-throw-rate percent (BTT%) of 8.9 percent is tied for first place with Anthony Richardson. With Bryce Young also making an appearance on the list, it’s clear that young quarterbacks are simply playing better football as their sophomore seasons progress forward, and Levis is at the forefront of that.
A handful of weeks ago, it appeared certain the Titans would be replacing Levis this offseason. He’s improved drastically since, giving himself a real opportunity to start again for the team in 2025. Pair his improvement with a lackluster crop of quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL Draft. and precious few veteran QBs slated to reach free agency (Aaron Rodgers, Sam Darnold, Justin Fields?), and it’s appearing increasingly likely that Levis gives Tennessee the best chance to win next season.
Sunday proved the Titans are not a quarterback away from competing for a Super Bowl. They trailed the Commanders by multiple scores before Levis even had a real opportunity to impact the game, positively or negatively. General manager Ran Carthon should focus on building the roster around Levis this offseason. Premium positions like right tackle, wide receiver (two of them?), and EDGE will be needs heading into the summer. So will safety and linebacker.
The Titans have several problems that have nothing to do with Levis.
