The Titans will be without a stud playmaker
Tennessee Titans running back Tyjae Spears suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday’s defeat to the Indianapolis Colts. Head coach Brian Callahan called Spears “week to week” when meeting with reporters on Monday with the lower-leg setback. This makes the dual-threat back incredibly doubtful to play versus the Buffalo Bills.

Spears rushed for 27 yards via six carries against the Colts before the injury. His average of 4.5 yards per carry was a season-best result since averaging 5.3 yards per carry against the Chicago Bears in Week 1, albeit via just four carries. Spears has rushed for 114 yards and one touchdown this campaign, adding 19 receptions for 82 additional receiving yards to his offensive totals.
Spears’ stint on the sidelines will catapult Tony Pollard into a workhorse role. Already Callahan’s preferred running back this season, Pollard rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown on 17 attempts against the Colts. His score occurred on a 3rd-and-long draw play that was essentially called to settle for a field goal. Instead, the former Memphis standout knifed through the defense for an unlikely touchdown.
Pollard has rushed for 339 yards and three touchdowns in six appearances. He’s been Tennessee’s best offensive playmaker, and arguably Ran Carthon’s best decision of the offseason.
Julius Chestnut is the other running back on the Titans’ 53-man roster. He received his first carry of the 2024 campaign, a two-yard gain, against the Colts on Sunday. If the Titans require another back on the active game-day roster, former Tennessee Volunteers back Jabari Small is on the practice squad.
