A name surfaces in the Titans GM search
We have the first name reported in the Tennessee Titans general manager search. Diana Russini of The Athletic said this morning that Chad Brinker and the Titans have requested an interview with Kansas City Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borgonzi. Justin Melo wrote an article this morning identifying three candidates to replace Ran Carthon. Borgonzi was on that list.
Borgonzi has been in the Chiefs front office in various capacities since 2015. He started as the co-director of player personnel. He has been the assistant general manager since 2021. He was there when they drafted Patrick Mahomes. That is good enough for me!
Here is what Melo had to say about Borgonzi this morning:
Kansas City Chiefs assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi is the big-fish swing. Borgonzi has routinely spurned outside interest in recent offseasons, opting to continue building a dynasty alongside Andy Reid, Brett Veach, and Patrick Mahomes. The Titans have to at least make their interest in interviewing him public.
Would Borgonzi possess interest in leaving Kansas City for Tennessee, where he’d have to answer to Brinker? Probably not, but the Titans have to nonetheless test his resolve. Perhaps owning the No. 1 overall selection in the upcoming draft would entice him.
The Titans fired Ran Carthon on Tuesday after two seasons with the team. The team compiled a 9-25 record during his two years at the helm.
