A pair of NFL teams are reportedly looking to the UFL for special teams help in the upcoming season.
According to AtoZSports.com, both the Giants and Titans have been in contact with Arlington Renegades kick returner and wideout Juwan “Sonic” Manigo who finished third in the league in all-purpose yards (1,116) and created numerous flashy highlights.
The 5-foot-7 return specialist was also second in the UFL in return yardage (934) and averaged over 22 yards per attempt.
Manigo played his college ball at Division III Delaware Valley University before spending two seasons with Liga de Fútbol Americano Profesional in Mexico.
The 26-year-old has made quite the name for himself in these alternative football leagues and could be an absolute steal of a find for Brian Daboll or Tennessee’s Brian Callahan.
Per Mauricio Rodriguez of A to Z: “Manigo [became] the most iconic player to ever suit up for pro ball in Mexico by winning MVP honors in back-to-back years as a wide receiver and return specialist. He dominated two different pro leagues, as the Caudillos went from playing in a competing league to the LFA to ‘graduating’ to the longest-tenured league and going undefeated en route to becoming champions in their first year in the LFA, in no small part thanks to Manigo.”
It sounds like Manigo could be getting his shot with the Shield. It should be fun to see how a team uses him should he make an NFL roster.
